Contemporary Home Gets a Stylish New Outdoor Living Space
Designing for a new construction home is always a welcome challenge. You start with a blank slate and get to create whatever the homeowner can dream up. But even with a clean canvas, there are challenges. Landscape Designer Jake Steward recalls working on the Trailwood project “That was a tricky one, mainly because we had to abide by a really tight rear yard setback so the pool had to be close to the house.” The homeowners wanted to include a pool and spa, an outdoor kitchen, and putting green in the space, but they also wanted it to feel spacious and elegant. Despite the spacial constraints, Stewart was able to design a remarkable entertainment space. “We gave the pool its unique L-shape to fit behind the setback while making the pool dynamic and not feel like it was squished against the house”
The great thing about gunite pools is that they are fully custom. There are almost no limits to what you can do. From the shape of the pool to the features like bubblers, tanning ledges, spas, and water features. These homeowners wanted elegant and sophisticated, Ventures custom design delivered. In addition to its unique footprint, the gunite pool was customized with a tanning ledge, 3 gorgeous pedestals with fire & water bowls, and a one-of-a-kind raised spa with 360-degree spillover. The lounge chairs rest atop paver inlays surrounded by artificial turf for a gorgeous, low-maintenance design that makes the tight space feel spacious and lush.
The existing porch was finished with a tongue and groove ceiling, recessed lighting, overhead heat, and a mounted all-weather TV. Below, we built an outdoor kitchen featuring bar seating, a built-in grill, refrigeration, and storage. Just outside the covered portion, the patio has a built-in fire pit and outdoor dining area.
Finally a large, 5-hole putting green spans the far side of the property. Landscaping with emerald green arborvitae, boxwood hedges, and ornamental grasses provide privacy to this gorgeous outdoor entertainment space.
