Located in Grosse Pointe, MI, the Cloverly Project captures the essence of minimalist, East Coast–inspired design with a striking grass-edge pool—a bold departure from traditional hardscaped patios. This custom gunite pool blends modern sophistication with a natural, resort-like feel, creating a serene and seamless transition between pool and landscape.
The defining feature of Cloverly is its patio-less layout, where a manicured green lawn extends right up to the limestone coping, eliminating the boundary between water and nature. This clean, uninterrupted look is rarely seen in Michigan, but has long been a hallmark of coastal estates and contemporary European gardens.
The design is anchored by a large sunshelf for lounging and a hidden spa integrated seamlessly into the pool’s form. The interior is finished in black tile and Pebble Tec, lending the water a deep, moody tone that contrasts beautifully with the crisp limestone edges and lush surrounding turf. On the far side, an exposed brick beam accommodates the property’s natural slope, grounding the design in texture and authenticity.
The grass-edge design isn’t just visually striking—it’s also more sustainable than traditional hardscaped surrounds. By reducing impervious surface area, the design allows for better rainwater absorption and drainage, improving the property’s permeability and minimizing runoff. It’s an approach that proves luxury and environmental mindfulness can coexist beautifully.
