A Custom Gunite Lap Pool, Outdoor Living Oasis, and Modern Architecture in Downtown Birmingham
Built in collaboration with Great Lakes Custom Builders, Lakeside proves that even compact downtown lots can accommodate full-scale resort amenities without sacrificing elegance or space. Located in downtown Birmingham, Michigan, this project showcases how precision planning and custom fabrication can maximize an outdoor footprint to create a modern luxury sanctuary.
The design centers around a seamless indoor-outdoor connection enabled by massive bi-fold doors that open the home’s main living area directly onto a covered porch with a stone fireplace. Anchoring the patio on center is a custom 9-foot linear fire table custom-fabricated by Ventures. Beyond the fire table, a custom 12' x 52' gunite lap pool stretches along the property, framed by Techo-Bloc hardscape, an oversized 8' x 10' perimeter-overflow spa, and a sun shelf backed by a custom 14-foot automated fire and water feature with 12 feet of open flame and five cascading water scuppers.
To complete the modern design, integrated linear channel lighting was installed along the steps, delivering continuous, seamless illumination across the entire outdoor living space.

Pool & Spa: Custom 12' x 52' gunite lap pool with sun shelf, paired with an oversized 8' x 10' fully tiled spa featuring a 360-degree perimeter overflow.
Fire & Water Features: Custom 14-foot automated fire/water wall featuring 12 feet of open flame, custom tile work, and five cascading scuppers, plus a custom-fabricated 9-foot linear gas fire pit centered on the main patio.
Indoor-Outdoor Flow: Large-span bi-fold glass doors seamlessly linking the interior living room to the covered stone porch and open-air hardscapes.
Patios & Hardscape: Techo-Bloc, Industria paver patio paired with synthetic turf borders along the pool edge.
Lighting Technology: Continuous linear channel LED step lighting for gap-free, edge-to-edge illumination.
